The Heart Works
SERVICES

Habits of mind that follow us for years can sometimes
reach their use by date. So what happens then?

When redesigning a workplace, Erik  Veldhoen from the Dutch design company, incorporates radical shifts in the way people interact with their work place. He asks people to ‘let go’ of their old desk space and take ownership for the entire building.

In a recent hospital redesign in the Netherlands, the designer shifted the ownership of medical care from the doctors to the patients. Doctors and nurses, who traditionally shared a hierarchical relationship, were asked to let go of deeply entrenched beliefs, values and mindsets around ‘the doctor knows best’.

Letting go created the space for tremendous innovations in the quality of service to patients, productivity for staff, cost savings and pleasure in one’s work!

Letting go of personal ownership of ideas, taking a collective view, creating awareness and challenging the prevailing mindsets, allows space to prototype new approaches.
